Today is holiday. I appreciate holiday.
No school, a spring breeze in the window, no complaints here.
On this day 64 years ago, Germany surrendered to bring the War to a close, and an era was over. And Europe rejoiced. They still do, and everything 8th of May, there are large military demonstrations throughout France.
I, too, am glad the war was ended.
And I like a day off.

ReplyDeleteThe fighting in Europe may have ended on May 8, but WWII was by no means over. Fighting continued in the Pacific theater. The Battle of Okinawa, one of the bloodiest of the war, raged on until the Americans gained control of the island in late-June. The Japanese finally surrendered on August 15, only after two atomic bombs had been dropped on Japanese cities, effectively bringing the war to a close.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, VE day is certainly cause for celebration. I'm glad you're enjoying the holiday .
